Twelfth Avenue has six acting deacons who serve as guiding counsel to the pastoral staff and make decisions for our church. Deacons serve a three-year term and must be inactive for at least one year before serving another term. Deacons are drawn from a pool of leaders who meet the qualifications for a deacon in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
Jason Huebner has attended TABC since 2005 and has served on the deacon rotation since 2021. Jason has also served on the TABC nominating committee, search committees, as a small group leader and on chair teams. His favorite thing about TABC is the ministry built on grace. Jason serves as the director of Christian Challenge, a ministry to college students at Emporia State University where he teaches the bible weekly at the large group meetings, disciples young men and trains and collaborates with his staff and student leaders. In his free time, Jason enjoys learning, camping and fixing up his house. He and his wife Lisa have been married for 26 years and have three children.
John Schaefer has attended TABC since 2009. He has been serving on the deacon rotation since 2015. John and his wife Carol have also served our congregation as small group leaders and marriage mentors for many years. John’s favorite thing about TABC is the great people that attend and how many are involved in our community. John owns Schaefer Plumbing and enjoys reading and spending time with family and friends in his free time. John and Carol have been married for 48 years and have two grown daughters and six grandchildren.
Scott Waters has attended TABC since 1984 and has served on the deacon rotation since the early 1990’s. Scott also serves as a small group leader, ESU football team chaplain, and disciples many college men. His wife Kathy has also been active in our Missions Committee and disciplining young women. Scott was a professor of Elementary Education at Emporia State for 36 years. In his free time, Scott enjoys reading, bird feeding and time with their grandchildren. Scott’s favorite thing about TABC is the Bible teaching and rich friendships. He and Kathy have been married for 48 years. They have five grown children and eight grandchildren.
Don Eusey, chair, has attended TABC since 1981 and has served several terms as a deacon. He currently serves on the Finance Committee and has also been a life group leader and a member of the Missions Committee. Don is actively involved in discipling several men. His life has been deeply impacted by the biblical teaching and the meaningful relationships he has formed at TABC.
Don has been a real estate broker, a college instructor and currently works part-time as a consultant for Sela Group, an international insurance agency owned by his son-in-law, Tamir. In his free time, he enjoys grilling, smoking meats, and baking bread. Don and his wife, Lucie, have three grown children and seven grandchildren.
Steve Loewen has been part of the body at TABC since 1982 and has served several terms as a deacon. Steve also serves as a life group leader with his wife Lisa, is on the leadership team of FOCUS (the international student ministry), and disciples several young couples with Lisa. She is also a 5th/6th grade girls Sunday School teacher, disciples several young women, and enjoys helping children grow in their speech and language skills. Steve has been deeply influenced by the study and teaching of God’s Word, serving alongside gifted & dedicated brothers and sisters, and the accountability/prayer of the TABC community. He works at the Teachers College at Emporia State University, supporting education majors in their school internships. Steve and Lisa have been married for almost 44 years, have six grown children and 14 grandchildren. He enjoys reading, playing games, hosting family/friends and watching sporting events.
